Tree tutorial Part 2 by Tephra76 Tree tutorial Part 2 by Tephra76
Part 2: Branches and Leaves

As requested, here is a tutorial on how I do trees in my backgrounds. It pretty much covers the basics only, but I hope you all find it helpful. And I hope it's not too confusing!

This is done in Photoshop Elements, but I believe regular Photoshop can also be used.

It's also worth mentioning a basic concept of tree growth. Most species of trees have a "leader" branch, it is usually the tallest branch. The leader branch produces hormones that causes the tree to grow generally straight up(tilting towards the leader branch to an extent), and causes other branches to try to grow towards the lead branch(why branches don't grow towards the earth).

That's also you can can force trees to grow spooky in real life, or exhibit other strange behavior like having a second trunk. by manipulating the lead branch, or removing it all together at various times of the trees life.
